I saw the first match, montolivio was solid albeit in a supporting role. he came back for one great tackle, then got nutmegged on another play, but managed to catch up. he seemed to be as fit as anyone on the field at the end as well, which I liked to see. I actually think italy looks the best of all the teams.

in other news, I know ted doesn't like rumors, but there's one out there...

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has has sparked rumours of imminent Viola spending with his jaunt to Italy's neighbours across the Alps - Switzerland.

The trip has, of course, resuscitated rumours which suggest that there'll be a late flurry of transfer activity in Florence. Milan-based daily Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that the director may be in the country to broker a deal for Argentinian Hector Raul Bobadilla from Swiss club Grasshoppers.

In contrast, Il Corriere dello Sport believes that the future of Fiorentina's defence was the issue at hand, with Corvino hoping to return with Grasshoppers' 17-year-old left-back Fabio Daprelà and another starlet, central defender Philippe Koch from FC Zurich.

La Viola certainly could do with providing cover for certain positions and fans will be interested to see which players, if any, Corvino returns with after his Alpine adventure.

also, looking ahead to week 1 in serie a:
Juventus have been hit by the news that midfielders Cristiano Zanetti and Marco Marchionni have both been ruled out of action for a month due to injury.
