That was an excellent summary and sorry about the rough day yesterday Ted. For me, a draw would have been the fair result (and obviously much better off for Fiorentina).

The most dissapointing thing was how the squad was completely deflated after the Pato goal. Twice this year against top competition at the Franchi, the Viola went behind only to fight back and equalize (Juventus and Roma). Once the goal was scored, the team resorted to long balls forward into a ridiculously crowed box. Obviously Milan’s tactics played some part in this but I was dissapointed in Fiorentina’s lack of creativity in the last 15 minutes of the game. I realize that the goal was a dagger but you have to get back up off of the mat after that and try harder to get the equalizer considering all that was at steak.

I tell you on occasion one team will play while the other team wins, and this was the case yesterday. Viola really attacked well but when you do not finish you do not win. To bad for Pato though.

That’s a fine summary of a very frustrating match, Ted. Sorry about the Pats, too.

Nesta avoided a red only through the fact that he wasn’t the last man back, as Kaladze was was close enough to give the ref a reasonable doubt. BTW, the Kalac reflex save at the death was off a shot by Gamberini; Mutu had taken the corner.

And even though he beat the Viola last night, I think all real football fans have to hope that Pato recovers from his severe ankle sprain. The lad’s a bit special.

Hang in there. Atalanta away on Saturday won’t be easy, but it is much too early to throw in the towel.
