Fiorentina: News and Nonsense
By: Ted | May 23rd, 2008Since the transfer stuff keeps coming fast and furious, I thought I would keep passing along the “news” for the next few days before we get to some more serious stuff.
First, it looks like Barzagli is ready to sign. That’s a good thing.
On the rumor front, some sources are now saying the Viola are looking to pick up Oddo as well as Gila from Milan. Currently Milan is in deny-mode, so this is all still firmly in the rumor department.
Here is a decent summary of all of the transfer news surrounding the Viola that has materialized so far. This is useful.
Here’s a pretty good editorial on Fiorentina’s return to greatness over the last few years. Good, heartwarming stuff.
‘Violanews’ is hosting a poll where you can (unofficially, of course) nominate the new captain now that Ujfalusi is gone. I think Jorgenson and Gamberini are good bets, but we have a long way to go.
Finally, this is a nice interview the ‘Violanews’ folks had with the Great Man. He predicts big things next season and thinks Kuzmanovic could be the breakout player of the year. It’s pretty impressive that Prandelli can be thoughtful and impressive-sounding even when his words are run through the wretched Google translator. I guess that’s why he’s the Great Man.

Vargas will be a Fiorentina’s players for the next season. Barzagli defenetely wants to play in Fiorentina ’s team ( he was born in Florence ) but Zamparini wants 2 ml more so Corvino took a couple days of vacation before making any decision. Now the “tormentone” in Florence is Osvaldo. There are rumors going around about he will leave Fiorentina for a spanish or english team. People are signing a petition ( http://www.firmiamo.it/osvaldoviola) disallowing Fiorentina to give him away . If you can read italian go on http://www.violanews.com or http://www.fiorentina.it .

One of the many problems with negotiating with Palermo is that Zamparini is incapable of maintaining a consistent position for more than 30 minutes.
It looks like everyone is taking the weekend off, but on Friday evening Zamparini confirmed that the Viola and Palermo have reached a deal on Barzagli for “around 10 million euro” and that all remains is for the player and club to reach agreement on his contract (he wants 1.3 million, Corvino has offered 1.1 million). The salary story is being pushed not just by Barzagli’s agent, but also by the agent of every other Viola, as they see it as a possible road to an increase in the salary cap.
The Reveillere story has been active in France for a couple of weeks, and I think it has a good chance of happening, even if Barzagli signs. He’s a more than decent player, and his Champions League experience with OL could come in handy next season.
I would be very happy with Jovetic, though one shouldn’t expect him to contribute right away.
And I wish I was as confident about Vargas as California Viola.

Corvino has told the Gazzetta that the deal for Gilardino is “just about done” with “only a few details” remaining to be worked out after the player made some significant concessions in terms of salary. Corvino didn’t say anything about financial details, but the Gazzetta estimates the fee at 14 million euro.
Tottenham have reportedly made an official offer for Osvaldo.
