Fiorentina-Sampdoria preview
By: Dumitru | May 16th, 2009So, on Sunday, we welcome Coppa finalists Sampdoria. Walter Mazzari’s men had a roller coaster of a season so far, dwelling, for the majority of the season, in the lower part of the table.
After last season’s successfull campaign, many thought that Sampa will continue from where they left. That didn’t happen, although their fortunes slightly improved after the winter break, largely due to the contribution of Viola renegate Giampaolo Pazzini, who, managed to score 15 goals for Doria so far and earned his debut for the italian NT in process, making us wonder just why he couldn’t do the same for Fiorentina. Anyway, i’m happy for him.
With 3 games remaining, Fiorentina needs just 2 more wins to keep the 4th place, but why to settle for that when we can overtake Juventus in 3rd, especially since Juve is winless in the last 6 matches.
A bonus for us will be the fact that Doriani will be tired, after the intense 120 minutes played against Lazio in the Coppa final, and let’s not neglect the psychological effect of losing a final can have.
Team news:
Fiorentina
Injuries and suspensions:Adrian Mutu will, probably, miss the last three games of the season. Also set to miss are Bonazzoli and Kuzmanovic. Comotto is suspended.
Possible formation (4-2-3-1): Frey – Zauri, Dainelli, Gamberini, Pasqual – Montolivo, Felipe Melo – Semioli, Jovetic, Vargas – Gilardino
Form guide:WLWWW
Sampdoria
Injuries and suspensions: Belluci, Sammarco, Lucchini are injured. Stankevicius is suspended. Also Cassano and Accardi didn’t
make the trip, while Palombo and Pieri will, most probably, start from the bench due to fatigue.
Possible formation (3-5-2): Castellazzi – Campagnaro, Gastaldello, Raggi – Padalino, Franceschini, Dessena, Delvecchio, Ziegler – Marilungo, Pazzini
Form guide:WLDLW
Players to watch:
After scoring his first goal in action against Catania last week, Stevie Jo will be hungry for some more, while Pazzini will want to prove a point to us all. Also, watch out for Dessena. He scored two against Reggina.
Match prediction:
I predict a 3-1 victory for us, with Jovetic and Gilardino scoring for the good guys and Pazzini for Sampdoria.

now that we’re pretty much into the champions league with all of it’s financial rewards, and with the money from the sales of osvaldo/pazzini, i fully expect corvino to pull off one or two big signings this summer. And with vargas, jovetic, melo and gila finally settled, we could possibly push for 2nd or 3rd next season.

“we’re 10 pts up on roma”
Actually, of the Big Four (I’m old enough to remember when it was le Sette Sorelle), Roma is probably the one I dislike least. Milan is the Berlusconi team, Inter is a bunch of foreigners, Juve is the stuff one flushes away. I have a hard time finding something to hate Roma about.

I have a hard time finding something to hate Roma about.
Francesco Totti, fra paolo. I find it very, very easy to hate Roma.

We are closer to Milan than Genoa, how awesome is that?
Also Fra, there is no “big four”, only Roma fans think that.

@irfan
big signings on defence will boost up our next season campaign.Posted from

I’m surprised at the level of pessimism here. I’m no optimist but after the last few weeks I think we can do anything. If we can keep the majority of this squad, bring in defensive signings and a backup striker, and we are in business!

i agree with nolan. i dont know if we can take on inter yet, but we can beat milan and juve for sure.

I think what i’m most pleased about, at this point, is that we finally look to be doing better than we did last year.
it’s always seemed like we had taken a step or two backwards

apparently your very close to signing palombo. montolivo, melo and palombo would be an amazing midfield behind jovetic, mutu and gilardino? you could be a permanent fixture of the top 4 if you keep going.
if ivanovic isnt in the plans of whoever is in charge of chelsea next season he would be perfect next to gamberiniPosted from

what about barzagli? hes coming off an excellent season with wolfsburg and hes from florence isnt he?

Barzagli could have joined us last season, but Viola ultimately refused the offer. He’s a bit old(30) and expensive, not worth it. We still need a good central defender though, Dainelli is too slow. I’m sure Corvino will work on that.

I don’t have a problem with Roma…I dislike Juve by tradition but the team I really cannot stand is Milan…mostly their fans and their overblown comments, they place themselves on a pedestal when in fact they are somewhat average.

by the way everyone we are now +7 points from 2007-2008…not bad for a season that was once considered “Prandelli’s worst at Fiorentina”

As far as Milan goes, I liked how they used to play, but I have to hate them for one reason alone: Silvio Berlusconi.
I don’t like any of the big 3 + Roma actually, I sympathize with a lot of other Italian teams such as Napoli and Livorno but Fiorentina comes first, second and third for me when it comes to Serie A.

Does anyone know what the deal is with Maritato? He has been on the bench for us the last couple of weeks but I’ve never really heard anything about him…

I’M SPEECHLESS!!!!
My dad just came back from Florence on business and got me an AUTOGRAPHED PICTURE OF KURT HAMRIN… PERSONALLY AUTOGRAPHED TO ME WITH MY NAME!!!

Wow! Can your dad get me an autograph with Mutu or Prandelli signature? I would be thankfull forever!

All of our boys just did an open signing at the fiorentina store in Florence. The videos of it are on the Viola website. I nearly cried with jealousy.

Damn, your father is awesome, Kurt Hamrin is a legend! My father got me an autographed picture of Ronaldo and Zidane that hangs on my wall, but it’s certainly not personal (I don’t think my dad even knows who they are, he just knew I’d appreciate it)

I just re-watched the game and pazzini was nowhere to be found. YOu can really see what Cassano means to that team as they lack a playmaker and character on the pitch.
Any Link to Palombo story? He would be a great fit with our team.

According to Friorentinanews.com we signed some players from south america…here’s the translated text….
Pantaleo Corvino will return to Florence tomorrow. And since the day of Tuesday, it will refer to work to frame and draw the team of the future. The trip to South America has been fruitful. Fiorentina has effectively ‘locked’ at least three players. Excellent reports on Munoz (defender of Argentine Boca) on Elias (the Corinthians midfielder), Fabricio (of Cruzeiro midfielder) and Sandro (midfielder of the Porto Alegre). On Tuesday, however, Corvino will focus on the Italian market and already by the end of the week should be the meeting with the manager of Crespo, Hidalgo, to put down on paper the agreement with the attacker.

Shalke and Werder are making their interests known for Precious

so apparently theres a little clause in Gilas contract…if he scores 20 goals in a season, he gets a modest bonus at the end of the season…a little more incentive for our man

Dont worry, Mike. No way Jo is heading to Bundesliga. we will play CL next year, where will Schalke and Werder play next season?
