Fiorentina v. Napoli
By: Ted | January 28th, 2009My apologies to everyone, but I will not be able to get a preview of today’s match up before the game. My real job calls, and since I am probably the last actual editor in the United States of America (for those of you not in the profession, the publishing industry is basically collapsing) I would like to keep my job. A decent-enough preview of the match can be found here.
For that same reason, I will most likely miss even seeing today’s match. Regardless, I will get some sort of match review up tomorrow, and will also at least mention some of the transfer rumors going around as we reach the end of the January window.
I predict a 2-0 win today; one that restores my hopes in the team.
Forza Viola, everyone.

What a great way to end a horrible January! Now lets get our points back!!! Bring on our little Romanian!!!

1) Why were you scared Nolan?
2) What did Bassy do?Posted from

Well, Ted, Will you take a 2-1 win?
What an exceedingly happy gameday!
La Viola WIN
Inter WIN
Juve LOOSE
Milan DRAW – Well, no day is perfect.Posted from

tmc — Bassy made sweet save on free kick right outside box; last play of the game

tmc – That one delayed offside where Lavezzi started celebrating freaked me out – thankfully it was the right call.
A bit scary at the end but a much needed win couple with Juvemerda losing and FC Beckham drawing with Genoa means things are already getting better!

We won. *breathes deeply* And now I’m going to go back to writing about endogenous murine retroviruses. Much more boring, but at least they don’t give me heart attacks in the 90th minute.

Thanks Nick – I sort of figured as much. Good thing he had a chance to make ammends for his apparent blunder earlier in the half (only saw the first half due to crap streams).

I was bashing Monto and Santana hard after the weekend’s woeful showing (which they deserved)- but they made amends today. Now some consitency would be nice…consistantly good, preferrably…

Good games from Melo, Santana and a clutch effort from Monto.
JoJo really needs to do something about that finishing however.

of course we’re all being silly.
nothing REALLY happened in serie a today except that david beckham scored a goal

I keep adding those nine points we should have had in November when we went on that losing streak against oppostion that was beneath us.
That’s what’s holding us back.

bologna nextwonder if our boy osvaldo gets melo-ed

Well that and Mutu’s injuries. I know you can’t rely on one player again, but Roma and Inter have the same problem. I’m going to be honest here; Roma is ahead of us and I’m going to be hoping for a Totti injury, because without him in the way we are the better team.

Hi everybody! First off BIG WIN today. We were falling too far behind, now were back in the HUNT! The good news keeps on coming, Mutu should be playing next game! I think it will be an uphill climb from here to the end of the season.
Today’s performance was great, except for 1 little MAJOR detail. FINISHING! In the first half we were completely dominating but could not find the net. Luckly Santana decided to finally score a goal and Monto’s efforts got us the badly needed 3 points! I am really starting to like Melo, he looks very confident and comfortable in midfield. Jovetic creates danger but needs to work on his finishing. Gila was average, should of done better with Santana’s slick flik
Frey was again godlike except for his stupid error, but everybody makes mistakes and we still won. Pasqual is great, I hope Corvino is smart enough not to let him go. Defence was average today, I had a few scares and we need to improve in this area. I really hope we sign Ivanovic from Chelsea! But anyway, today is a POSITIVE DAY so lets celebrate!!
PS. Any Viola fans from Canada?

slakas: *grins* I actually like retroviruses, which is good considering I work on them, it’s just the endogenous murine ones I find boring. Seriously, there are few things in the world I care less about than the mouse genome. (Which probably makes me a bad biologist, but what can you do.)
I wonder if the problems with finishing are inherent to the players, or if Prandelli can enroll them in a special “It’s Called the Back of the Net, Stupid” finishing school. It’s really getting rather ridiculous.

i think he should make them drink chianti

in other news. this has nothing to do with football of any other sort, but quotes like these should be spread far and wide:
Much has been made of Tom Verducci’s book The Yankee Years, scheduled to be released Feb. 3rd, where Joe Torre rips current and former Yankees personnel.
There have already been several snippets of the book that have leaked out, including where Torre reveals Alex Rodriguez’s nickname in the Yankees clubhouse was A-Fraud.
One of the most memorable parts of the book that hasn’t made it out yet is a bizarre story about Roger Clemens, and how he prepared for starts.
The story comes courtesy of Yankee trainer Steve Donahue who told Verducci about what Roger Clemens did as part of his usual routine to get ready for facing the Mets in Game 2 of the 2000 World Series. Donahue said Clemens’ usual pregame preparation included taking a whirlpool bath at the hottest temperature possible.
“He’d come out looking like a lobster,” Donahue said.
But here’s the money quote:
Then Donahue would rub the hottest possible liniment on his testicles.
“He’d start snorting like a bull,” the trainer said. “That’s when he was ready to pitch.”
Man, talk about way too much information. That must be why Roger was such a crotchety bastard on the mound. Well, that and the steroids.

‘Then Donahue would rub the hottest possible liniment…’
I think I would have preferred to get through life without having that image in my head, even briefly.
As for Canada, I’m currently living in Kitchener, ON, until the end of the academic year.

…I don’t even have testicles, and that makes me wince.
