Fiorentina v. Steaua

By: Ted | September 29th, 2008

Apologies to all, but I won’t be able to get a preview up today of tomorrow’s big Champions League showdown vs. Steaua Bucharest. Unfortunately I am wrecked with work on a busy Monday afternoon and will be working strait into the night. Trust me, no one in the world is happier about the Viola being in the CL, but the frequency of games is just killing me right now. This will be the clubs fourth game in ten days; it seems as if I am writing a preview or a recap every day.

Regardless, my apologies. You can find a decent enough preview of the match here, along with guesses as to the starting line-up, etc. I promise to be back with a recap tomorrow, hopefully of a game we won by a hatful of goals.

Forza Viola, everyone.

steaua is a tricky team.of all romanian teams,i like them most.but i still think viola will win in a close fought match.we have two winable matches in serie a coming(chievo and reggina i think).if we win them, this will create a 4 game winning, perfect to restore the team’s confidence.forza viola!

Steaua is the favourite team.. after all Fiorentina is the outsider in this group. They have more experience in the CHL (this is their 4-th consecutive year in the group stages) and they have won the trophy back in 1986. In my opinion they will get at least one point tonight.. at least!

Am – how the hell would Steau be favourites?
    (betfair odds…)
    Fiorentina
    1.58
    Steaua Bucharest
    7.6
    The Draw
    4.1

Should be two or three goal win for Fiorentina

    thank you thank you!!

man if mutu could break thru early he might go for a few

“Tomorrow I’d like to, at the very least, score a goal,” said the former Parma player. “No matter how important the goal is, I must do it.”

Mutu then spoke about playing a team from his native Romania: “It is the first time I’m playing against a squad from my country and some emotion is inevitable, but I’m ready to play this match and especially to win it.”

    some more gameday stuff:
Prandelli is looking forward to hosting the Romanian side later tonight and cannot wait to walk out of the Artemio Franchi tunnel and feel the roar and passion surging through the famous Curva Fiesole.

The coach admits that his side will be motivated and ready for the fight and has hinted that he will make some minor adjustments to the team.

“I will be feeling a very strong emotion when I walk through the tunnel because our fans have been waiting for this game for years,” Prandelli told Studio Sport.

“These emotions and warmth from the crowd give me and the team plenty of motivation. As for the formation, I can say that I will change a few things as usual.

“I have plenty of players who have been training well and they have put me in difficulty in terms of selection, but this is what we need in order to keep growing.”

at least lyon and bayern tied. so, we’ve got bayern on top with 4, lyon and viola with 2, and steaua with 1. could be worse, but once again, a blown opportunity.

lol. the locals would care to disagree with you, althogh prandelli does agree

Following the goalless draw against Steaua Bucharest, Fiorentina’s fans whistled and booed their team off the pitch at the Artemio Franchi stadium. Coach Cesare Prandelli slammed this behaviour in a post-match interview, and praised his team’s spirit.

“We had some difficulties, but we still kept a clean sheet which is important,” he said. “The team showed spirit, this is what’s important for a team to grow.

“Steaua had a better condition than us, but I liked my team’s character and determination. When you play against a team that presses high up the field, it becomes difficult to pass the ball around.

“We tried hard, but often resorted to crosses or long balls to get around them.”

On his late attack-minded changes, bringing in Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Giampaolo Pazzini, Prandelli said: “Fifteen minutes before the end it was right to run a few risks, but Steaua only came close to scoring when we made a mistake in defence. Overall, we had some chances but the daw is the right result.”

On the fans’ reaction after the match, he said: “In three years we have achieved a lot, the club weren’t in the Champions League for eight years, so I believe this team should always be applauded.”

Awrright troops? Im back home in chilly Glasgow after a week in sunny Ferenze. Highlight of the week was to be saturdays match. Left my wife and daughters shopping and walked from the ponte vecchio to the stadium (45mins).Surprised at the size of the police presence and the fence round the stadium, more surprised that the ticket office is actually in a bar, gutted that I couldnt get a ticket because I didnt have my passport with me. W.T.F. is that all about? The walk back to town felt a helluva lot longer.I felt like a kid with a burst balloon. The petted lip was so big , if it rained I would have drowned. Surely there is a better way to stop the hooligans than to stop real footy fans attending.
