Fiorentina v. Torino Quickie Preview
By: Ted | December 6th, 2008
Hey Everybody. Sorry about getting this post up at the last minute, and sorry it’s not going to be all that substantial. It was a combination of family obligations and holiday preparation that got me this weekend. Happily, all of my work is about done so I will at least have ninety minutes tomorrow to watch the match.
In a nutshell, the boys travel to Turin tomorrow to take on the “other” team up there as both clubs try to turn their season around. Fiorentina will be trying to finally get something positive accomplished on the road (I believe they only have achieved 6 of a possible 20 points on the road) while Torino will be trying to turn around a series of bad results.
Let’s lay it on the line: the Viola could really, really use the three points on Sunday. Let’s hope they get them.
Possible Starting Line-Ups (AKA The Blind Guess Department)
Torino: Sereni – Colombo, Pratali, Pratali, Rubin – Diana, Dzemaili, Barone, Rosina –Amoruso, Stellone
Fiorentina: Frey – Comotto, Koldrup, Gamberini, Vargas – Melo, Kuzmanovic, Montolivo, Santana – Gilardino, Mutu
Prediction
Christ, I would take a 1-0 victory like I would take a million dollars: without looking back.
TV Situation
Looks like the game will not be shown here in the states. Great.
I hope to be back with a more substantial recap after the game. Forza Viola, and take care.

I’m guessing it went Montolivo – Kuzmanovic – Pasqual – Gilardino – Goal.

I think that’s how it went, fra. It was pretty hard to see on the stream, though.
Frey definitely needs to do something about his facial hair if he wants to get holy jokes made about him, it’s true. (Did you Google “Jesus playing soccer” to find that pic, slakas?)
Anyway, our luck continues to hold against Torino, and this should do wonders for our goal difference, even though I don’t believe it actually moves us up the table. CAN’T WIN ON THE ROAD, MY PERT AND PERKY REAR. HA.

DOHHHHH
juve scores in extra timePosted from

I think the ball went over the line and out of play twice on the third goal.

I had actually seen the pic with the kids before so knew where to go.
if results stay the way they are now, the top five all win. so the lead pack will extend from the mid tablers a touch
puts our goal diff from 5 to 8
inter’s at 17 and juve at 13 so that need workPosted from

Well played, Montolivo, if it was him.

If I’m reading the table right, we stay in fifth but go three points clear of Lazio and four clear of Catania, and maybe four clear of Genoa as well, depending on how the derby goes this afternoon. Poor Torino (I actually do like them) stays one ahead of the drop, but is now ahead of Reggina only on goal difference.

Pazzini not even on the bench, and Osvaldo playing…do you think Prandelli has made his pick?
Posted from

Well it’s not like Osvaldo started, and Prandelli likes to give everyone who is not Papa Waigo their chances, but I think it’s a good omen for those of us on the side of the Argentine.

Or he was trying to advertise Osvaldo in order to raise his price come January.
…Look, I’ve got to find hope where I can, ok? *clings to Pazzini*

I agree with Angharad. Osvaldo playing means Osvaldo is in play.

we’ve got two midweek matches
the last CL this week and the coppa the followinghe may jst be resting pazzini

Papa Waigo should be allowed to salute his fans…i’m actually sad to see him go, March 3rd would have never happened without him, and the 1-0 at Livorno, so technically, hes responsible for our season!

Papa Waigo’s lack of chances is the one thing of the Prandelli era that I just cannot think of a reasonable explanation for.

by the way Kuz’s goal dance was great lol

Resting Pazzo for what? The physically and emotionally difficult task of sitting on his arse for 85 minutes?
…Sorry, I shouldn’t be bitter. But it’s been a hard getting-close-to-half season for Pazzini fans. (Although, I’ll acknowledge, not as hard as it must have been for Papa Waigo fans. Why doesn’t Prandelli play him, do you think? He’s actually very versatile, so “no place on the pitch” can’t be all of it.)
Kuz’s goal dance made me die a little inside. Just when I thought nothing could get more embarrassing than Monto’s post-goal fish faces.

resting him cuz there’s a lot of bags he has to carry off the bus in bucharest
DOHin other news (knew it was coming)
ROME, Dec 8 (Reuters) – Torino have sacked coach Gianni De Biasi and reappointed his predecessor Walter Novellino, the Serie A strugglers said on their website (www.torinofc.it) on Monday.Fans threw eggs at the players after Sunday’s 4-1 home defeat by Fiorentina left the team fourth from bottom.
It is the end of De Biasi’s third stint in charge of the club. He was also fired before the 2006-07 season after leading them to promotion from Serie B, only to be recalled for the second half of the campaign.
Former Sampdoria coach Novellino took over last season but Torino toiled and De Biasi returned at the end of the campaign to help them survive.

Honestly I see Papa Waigo as a “Reginaldo” type situation…I thought Reginaldo was fantastic especially in the latter half of the 2006/2007 season, then we sold him to Parma, and its been obscurity from there (well actually not if you count Miss Canalis) but I was hoping the same wouldn’t happen with Osvaldo or Papa Waigo, to be a one-season wonder

I propose we hereby refer to our Senegalese striker as “Cool” Papa Waigo in honor of the Negro league legend “Cool Papa” Bell. He was a center fielder, and considered by some to be the fastest man EVER to play the game (his speed inspired many a tall tale). Beyond that, it’s just a sweet nickname, c’mon.

Fiorentina Delayed After Plane Scare
The Viola were delayed from taking off after some technical problems with their flight out to Romania.Fiorentina’s trip to Bucharest was delayed by over an hour after the plane which was scheduled to take them to Romania was grounded.
The Italians were due to depart from Aeroporto di Firenze on Meridiana flight IG2205 at 12:40 local time but the passengers were told to disembark from the aircraft and return to the terminal after some technical hitches prevented the plane from taking off.
The aircraft was inspected and given the all clear to proceed with the flight after vigourous checks.
Fiorentina took off at 13:45 local time and they are expected to land in Romania this afternoon.
The Viola clash with Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday night for a place in the UEFA Cup as they were eliminated from the Champions League two weeks ago.
Cesare Prandelli’s men are in confident mood following their 4-1 win over Torino on Sunday but the Romanians will not lay down as they too can qualify for the UEFA Cup with a win.
