Sorry, Im going by last year…I swear i think he scored 1 goal with his foot

-

That being said, he does have a great ability of controlling possession and he is also able to lay the ball off to supporting players, Mutu’s second Debrecen goal and Jorgy’s Liverpool goal come to mind.
Also, Del Piero’s goal, which killed Germany in 2006. Gila’s in a way one of the most underrated players in football, if only because his popular image is so awful, it doesn’t do him justice. That being said, the loss I would feel is largely unrelated to his footballing skills.
Maybe it’s for the best.

He scored at least one with his foot last year; it’s that awesome 180 degrees turn. Or was it this year?

8 mil for Gila? Hell yes I’d take it. Sell Cerci and use the cash to sign a new forward.

-

How much did we pay Meelan for him? At this point I say it’s not that risky to alternate between Baba and Tanque. Losing Cerci will complicate that a bit, but it’s manageable.
Getting Iaquinta is likely to be disastrous. The mas has the same problems with Gilardino. What we need is a more mobile, creative forward, not another target-man.

-

However, for a shirt number enthusiast, recruiting Maxi Lopez is the least interesting option possible. #11 goes straight to the guy, it’s too simple…

-

reportedly Maxi lopez and Iaquinta are no longer in Fior’s sights
and on top of whatever they get for Gila, they save 2.5 mil a yr, and he had two years left, so it’s a savings of 5 mil of salary.
i don’t think, however, that a striker should be Fior’s priority, jovetic can pair with someone and do just as well as Gila was doing this year, if not better.
the midfield is really the major problem now,

-

Agreed.
Football Italia uses the term “Serie B giants” to describe Samp. If I were a Samp fan I think I’d be offended for some reason.

reportedly Moratti has a 10 mil euro check made out to purchase vargas

Communications Manager Teotino announces a plan to get the official website, Violachannel.it, to people who don’t have computers.
from what I understand, they’re talking about putting up screens around town that would play Violachannel material

-

I imagine selling Gila, Cerci and Vargas should net in the neighborhood of 25m (sad to think that once upon a time Vargas alone would have netted 20). That should bring a couple offensive minded players.

-

some more thought fodder for those still unsure:
Besides the much talked about goal drought, gilardino had about 10 less appearances last year than what he averaged the last 8 years and with only 12 appearances so far this year, is on a pace that wouldn’t even match that.
Last year’s decline I attributed to post world cup fatigue, but he doesn’t have that excuse this year.
let’s look at it from a value standpoint. are 12 appearances and 2 goals worth half of his 2.5 mil salary?
no way.yes he COULD catch fire and string off 20 goals in the second half of the season, but is it likely? not based on this year and last and certainly not with the current lineup

-

reportedly Liverpool could offer 7 mil euros for montolivo

-

Whoa, 4 to 5 players leaving? I hope we buy like 3-4 at least, if only to keep the squad from being too thin.

-

Galliani tells Lo Monaco: “No Maxi, we want Tevez”

-

Apparently Gila’s sale was Delio’s idea, if he has a clear idea for the team that makes me feel better

-

Yeah, I was just afraid (perhaps irrationally) that it’s just the club thinking it’s the best price they’ll ever get for Gila.
Was expecting a boring window. This is fairly exciting.

-

It seems like we’ve given Gila a eulogy a few times before this, when seemingly he was gone. Well, like I said during those previous times; love the dude, I appreciate his loyalty to the club, good team guy (except when he took the penalty from Jo-Jo), he’s in short easy to root for. That said, his best is clearly behind him and I’m more than cool with him leaving now. Let Babacar Named Desire show what he’s got, or buy someone on the upswing, not the twilight of their careers.

I have Violachannel on my cell phone. Seems like Fiorentina is one of the few football teams with an official android app. Most have an iphone one of course.
Shame my Italian is borderline nonexistant.

-

Viola ok a physical for gila. Short of gila backing out at the last minute or failing his phyisical, it looks to be a done deal

-

Just buy a player that actually worth the money we are going to spend, that’s all I’m asking.
Vargas is not worth selling he could turn on his engine and be useful like he use to be before the injury.
Selling Monto sounds good, and 7M is not bad, better that what MF Milan offered.
And Cerci, isn’t he one of the best players these days at the viola? And isn’t he somewhat a good investment for the future why selling him?

-

I see Corvino going after a younger player with the same skills as Gila now. I dont see this management giving any good player 15-20 million Or paying a player a high wage
Same old story…cant compete in Europe spending nickles and dimes on players when other teams are shelling out money left and right.

-

Barry we’re selling Cerci because he doesn’t fit into the 4-3-1-2 that Rossi is envisioning, Cerci is only useful in a 4-3-3.

-

Lots of local displeasure being voiced in the press regarding Gilardino’s departure, I bet Corvino wishes they could’ve kept this quiet in typical fat ninja style, but Preziosi just can’t keep his mouth shut…
however, keeping in mind The Raven’s penchant for stealth, everything but gila at this point is pure speculation and should be taken as such.
for instance, the press would have you believe this morning that Mauricio Pinilla would be “leading the pack” as a replacement, and his agent comes out and says there has been no contact.
in other news,
bothe cerci and behrami have said goodbye to Gila on their twitter acctscerci
‘’sorry for the departure of the Gila … It was an honor to have played at your side … good luck bomber!!”behrami
They have taken away the Bomber, so sad. good Luck and thank you for everything

All south american players have returned to the squad, with the exception of Santiago Silva, who has a fever.
