Mutu Interview and his ‘Dance’
By: Ted | February 19th, 2008During Sunday’s win over Catania, viewers in the US (I don’t know if the feed was the same for the rest of the world) witnessed Fiorentina forward Adrian Mutu do an amusing, hip-shaking dance (while holding the ball, mind you) as he killed time off to preserve the Viola’s 2-1 victory. People have apparently gotten all worked up over the little number, so Adrian was interviewed yesterday and said he had nothing to apologize for:
I have nothing for which to apologize. I did not want to sit down for anybody. I wanted just to pass the time and defend our 2 to 1. (sorry about the lousy Google translation.)
A grainy copy of the dance can be found here. There were better copies of it on youtube yesterday, but copyright restrictions have dictated that most of them have been taken down. This one is in slow motion, which somehow makes it even stranger, yet more mesmerizing.
Mutu also briefly addressed a number of other points in the interview, including AC Milan (he says they are stronger, but Fiorentina is hungrier) and the interest big clubs, like Roma and Real Madrid, have in his services (flattering, he says, but he is happy in Florence.)
He closes by saying the Viola do not want another “Luca Toni” (by which he means a big star leaving) and the interviewer wonders if he will witness Mutu and Toni meeting again, perhaps in the UEFA cup final. One can only hope.

I adore Mutu, but that was classless and immature, and his “I don’t know what they’re so upset about!” act after the match only made it worse. And it’s not like they’re lining up behind his denial — I can’t remember who, but another Viola player — jokingly, but not really — said something like “Damn, I’d have headbutted him if he did that to me!”
He doesn’t have to sit down with anybody, but admitting that it was a dicky thing to do would be a step in the right direction. I just hope Prandelli, who was in a shitty mood after the match anyway, read him the riot act, and that we won’t see any more of that nonsense from Mutu.

“I can’t remember who, but another Viola player — jokingly, but not really — said something like…”
It was Dainelli who said that on the conferenza stampa the day after.

… and btw, I don’t mind Mutu’s little dance at all. After all, it was Baiocco who hurled racial abuses at Mutu the last meeting.

Well, big deal. Ronaldinho was laughing all the time in the faces of the defenders(in his good old days, when he played good footbal), did 100 things to ridicule them, and no one was acusing him of nothing. So, what’s the big deal about this one? There were two defenders too scared to go for the ball, that was really funny, they didn’t atack the player even when he was dancing, great defenders:)))

dancing with the ball: an answer to a racial verbal abuse…the best ever!!!! Wake up people… I don’t remember anybody calling Baiacco’s remarks as “classless and immature” a few weeks ago, maybe you got used with this type of behavior
