News and Rumors
By: Ted | May 21st, 2008Ah, I love the silly season. A time for real news and real made-up nonsense. And this early in the season, it is sometimes hard to tell one from the other. If I fall off the deep end in a few weeks and start linking to stories that have the Viola signing Christiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi, and the reanimated corpse of George Best, assume I am spending too much time on Goal.com and let me know it might be a good time to take a breather.
Anyway, here’s what I have for this evening. First, it looks like the Viola have officially agreed to a deal for Felipe Melo. We’ve been hearing about this one for a good long while now, but apparently it is official. The final price still isn’t clear yet, but it looks like its going to be a lot of dough. However, I trust that the boys know what they are doing.
Switching over to the less firm “rumor” department, it looks like Barzagli is close to signing, while the Viola are also looking at Lyon fullback Anthony Réveillère . Both of these make sense, especially with Ujfalusi leaving. Still, they’re just rumors. Whatever.
Finally, there was a story going around today that Corvino had flown to Milan to work out a deal for Gila. Milan, later this evening, came out with a flat denial. Who knows? Of course Corvino (or anyone) could fly to Milan for any reason. Say to buy a new suit. So this may be more smoke than fire. I’ll do my best to keep an eye on it.
Pretty decent CL final today. I especially enjoyed the attacking first half before things calmed down in the second. I imagined what it would be like next season to have Fiorentina in the final. Hey, a man can dream…

If you guys sign Barzagli, expect all supermarkets in and around Firenze to be out of Kleenex and Vaseline.

Zamparini has just confirmed that the Viola and Palermo have reached a deal on Barzagli for “around 10 million euro” and that all remains is for the player and club to reach agreement on his contract (he wants 1.3 million, Corvino has offered 1.1 million).
The Reveillere story has been active in France for a couple of weeks, and I think it has a good chance of happening, even if Barzagli signs. He’s a more than decent player, and his Champions League experience with OL could come in handy next season.

Since now, Barzagli has not signed anything, and i hope he won’t. Last rumours are about Reveillere, but the negotiations have come to a standstill. Felipe Melo is now in the team, Jovetic is sure enough, Gilardino is next to the end. If this is the beginning, i’m happy for what could happens in the next CL.
