Purple Haze – Fiorentina 1 v Palermo 2

Today in beautiful Florence, Fiorentina were schooled in every aspect of the game by a much better Palermo squad.

Of course, that praise for Palermo means nothing, since it seems every squad in Serie A is better than Fiorentina so far

La Viola put 10 guys in the offensive half and paid for it by being gashed by counters time and time again. Even Superhuman Sebastian Frey was merely human as he was outplayed by the Palermo goalie, 4 saves to 2.

First goal was an awesome strike, but Zidane made him look silly on the second goal

The one bright light for Fiorentina was Mario Santana who came on and crossed a ball that not even Gila could miss on for the lone purple goal, but Captain Montolivio followed that up shortly with a red card which ended any hope of a result.

Report cards
Donadel gets a 5 for effort, Santana a 6 for a perfect cross and every one else gets ZERO. Nada. Nothing. they were all crap. They couldn’t string more than two passes together most of the match. They walk back practically every time they go forward. Frey hardly even looked himself except for one or two saves. Monto looked horrible, fueling conversation that he should probably just get the surgery. I’ll give gila a 1 for not pulling a nacho on a ball no one should’ve missed on.

Mihajlovic gets a -2 for starting Marchionni out of position AGAIN, although I’ll give him those 2 pts back for finally putting Santana in. so he gets 0 too. Unless things change, he won’t be the coach we end this season with.

Moving forward
International break these week. hopefully this gives D’agostino time to heal as Monto will not be available next match. Shouldn’t be more than a one match ban.

Oct 16th we come back and travel to Sampdoria. wow that’ll be a lot of fun as well.

We have about 4 weeks til Mutu makes it back.

right now, without mutu, jovetic and vargas, 4-3-3 is the ideal formation, but once mutu, vargas and eventually jovetic will be back, 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 will be alot more suited to us.

Who’s still out injured? Jovetic (plus Mutu) is a given, but would Vargas be available for the next game? LDS and D’Ago?

Gila is injured, they’re hopeful he’ll be back by Sampdoria. but they said 15 days originally, which would put him beyond samp

Vargas is injured and on his way back to italy. he should be ready for Samp.

D’agostino will be checked out next week and might be ready for samp

LDS sounds like he’ll be back in by next week

montolivio will not play with a suspension

It’s painfully obvious that his best days are way behind him, Zanetti. : (

    So let him go.

Just when exactly did we begin to suck so spectacularly? I remember we begin last season quite reasonably, near the peak even, and then we lost to Parma at home. Then it’s all a bit of hit or miss, but even when we sucked we sort of sucked within reasonable proportion. I remember we began 2010 by a 5-1 over Siena and I was rather optimistic.

And then came a run of awful performances (lost to Chievo, Bologna…) with small bits of brilliance (even we thought Bayern will smash us 131-0, surely). And then awful performance entirely.

Top 10 post-ban foreigners. Only one Viola alumni, and it should be obvious who it is.

Estonia is playing impressive so far. They had a 1-0 lead on Italy until mid-way through the 2nd when Italy tied it up on a set piece and Estonia fell apart after that.

I think it is shocking that Italy drawed with N. Ireland, though..

It’s hard for me to watch NHL anymore, after how the NHL dealt with IIHF and sponsors for the Champions League of Hockey, NHL is a big, if not the, reason for the cancellation of it.
