Roma preview
By: Dumitru | September 18th, 2009After the frustrating loss to Lyon, what better way to rid ourselves of anger, than beating Roma. I know, i know, you’ll say ‘I Cazzi’ are not what they used to be and you’re right, but, 3 points against them are as good as 3 points against Inter for me.
Both teams suffered defeats in Europe this week, but, at least we lost to Lyon(French champs between 2000-2008), and not Basel of the Swiss league. I would also like to add that, had Gila not been sent off, the score would have been different.
Roma recently replaced Spaletti with Ranieri. The guy is a looser. If tomorrow he gets appointed as Barcelona’s coach, he will still will not win anything. His record of finishing second is only bettered by Michael Ballack. How do they expect him to succeed in an environment dominated by Totti’s ego is beyond me.
Incredibly, Roma has the entire squad fit for this match, although Cicinho and Doni will struggle to be match fit. Castillo and De Silvestri will miss for us due to injuries.
Form guide:
Viola: DDWWL
Roma: LWLWL
Probable line-ups:
Viola: Frey; Pasqual, Dainelli, Gamberini, Comotto; Montolivo, Zanetti; Vargas, Mutu, Marchionni; Gila
Roma: Julio Sergio; Motta, Burdisso, Mexes, Riise; Taddei, De Rossi, Pizarro, Perrotta; Vucinic, Totti
My prediction:1-1, Mutu, Totti.
Forza Viola!

Angharad, your man jorgensen is in, lets hope he gets things done!

This game sucks, however I must thank Alessio for reminding us that no matter what the rivalry between Fiorentina and Juventus, here at the Offside we are all united in our disgust for stupid Roma fans.

Poor performance by Fiorentina so far, but an even poorer performance by those Roma twats.

Gamberini gets a yellow for running his mouth. I hope he didn’t already have one.

more respectable but still a terrible performance

Gila’s not giving up. That was a hustle goal.

Well that’s better than nothing. Miserable game but to be fair it only got as bad as it did because of a bullshit penalty by a ref who has already been suspended for favoring Roma before.

I dozed off, but woke up in time for Gilardino’s goal. We almost got two there.

Well, what to take away from that? The referee allowed Roma some liberties in the physical play. We got a bad call with the penalty. Gilardino could easily have scored two at the end, and maybe a third.
However, we really do have issues in midfield against better teams. Zanetti is no substitute for Melo. If anything, there seems to be a huge hole in front of the back four. Marchionni didn’t look at all good in the first chance I’ve really had to watch him play. Montolivo was Mr Hide tonight. Santana is as Santana does; he’s not going to set the world alight.
Roma were keen to exploit an apparent slowness in our backline from the start. That slowness finally got exploited in the third goal.
Add it all up, and I don’t think we can blame anyone but our own players, and the Melo deal. We’re going to be paying for that all season, however much cash we got out of it in the summer. Mid-table obscurity, here we come, and a mass exodus next summer.

I myself would like to apologize for the majority of the Roma fans here. The two or three people who I have seen posting the ridiculous and completely juvenile garbage do not speak for the rest of us. We (the normal fans) do not condone the juvenile posting. It seemed like you guys had an off day and that everything clicked for us. Stuff like that happens. I will admit to not have read all the comments( watching the Bills game now), only the 25 most recent. I do not know if anything was posted mid game, so I cannot speak on that. Again, sorry for the few bad apples.

Thanks Mike, no hard feeling against the majority of Roma fans, The Offside seems to attract a few too many embarrassments though.
I’m beginning to worry that the talk of the Della Valles jumping ship is true, especially the way the management gutted the team over the summer. I’m being to suspect we might have been betrayed.

@ everyone:
as Mike says – the same guys post abuse in the roma blog when we don’t agree with their views about players/management/owners etc so we’re used to it. apologies, hope it didn’t get too bad. for what it’s worth I think jovetic is going to be one of the shining lights in serie a over the next few years

I’d also like to apologize for those Romanisti idiots posting there.
I wish you luck in CL.

And who is our main target for the transfer window? Not a defender, a forward – http://www.onlysoccer.net/?action=read&idsel=44423

I would not say no to Pandev because Mutu looks like a shell of his former self right now and is made of glass, but it won’t make our defense or midfield any less awful.

Of course I’m still holding out hope that we already signed Muñoz, but he sounds like a project….

If you guys are still looking for some defensive steel, we’ve still got Molinaro to offer.
What? Too soon?

Haha thought you would beat Roma eh? Wounded Roma is more than enough to beat Fiorentina hahahahah, btw good luck to Mutu on his case wouldn’t want you guys getting even more bad news. Ohhh beating Fiorentina such a pick-me-up

I too would like to apologize for some rotten apples. One thing I do agree is that we have a few immature and fickle fans that we wouldn’t miss if “internet” was banned in there country.
I think that the handball call was a shady one but sometimes the ref blows the whistle and sometimes he swallows it. It is a part of the game and bad calls really do even out during a season.
Until next giornata. Forza Roma
