Coaches Quotes
“This Fiorentina side has a soul and is on the right track.”
“I was curious to see how the team would fare against a Roma in great shape,” said the Coach.

“We did really well for an hour, even if we didn’t make the most of some pretty simple chances that you really have to take against a side like Roma. The squad reacted, but made mistakes that proved disastrous.

“We lost 3-0, but a Coach has to evaluate the performance more than just the result. I firmly believe in my players, many of whom are under 20 years old. This Fiorentina side has a soul and I leave the game aware we are on the right track.

“I certainly think that the 3-5-2 system is most suited to the players at my disposal.”

Wishlist for the next few days:

    A convincing win over Lecce.
Montolivo sold. We’ll give him what’s due, but sold.
    4 – Angelo Palombo
    18 – Mounir El Hamdaoui

Sounds good? Add one more quality player (a defender, say) and one more depth player, give it time for Delio to put things together, and it does sound good indeed to me.

I’ll take Palombo. A midfield stud, hell yeah. Don’t know El Hamdoui, but Ajax cranks out good players (plus I’m always for having people with the Spanish article “El” in front of their names, like “El Mariachi” or “El Asesino” etc).

Shame Cerci’s such a child, because I too like his game. Teams really respect his ability to beat his man. They often will double up on him as soon as he gets the ball on the right.

Yeah, Tomas, I had hoped that Delio can make him mature a bit, but it seems he’s not in Delio’s plan, at least so far.

As Palombo a stud anymore though? I mean 30 year old hard working midfielders tend to drop off pretty rapidly…

Good deal, but knowing Fiorentina he’s going to get injured in his first game.

El Ham is kind of sporadic, and he’s got an injury history. On the plus side, he’s good technically and smart. He had two great years at AZ and a solid with Ajax last year, but he’s also been a complete flop at Ajax this year; he hasn’t made an appearance and they’re trying to unload him. Could be a steal, could be a flop. All depends on his health and motivation. Seems like a typical Corvino gamble.

Well, we have that reputation of reviving careers. I mean, with limited spending powers, it’s either that, youngsters, or mediocre players.

I would like the Palombo signing because he is a solid bruiser in the midfield, but especially because of his attitude. When he cried and apologized to the fans after Samp was relegated, it showed a great commitment and natural emotion that was clearly not forced and he was obviously distraught. Having a player that committed to the team would do wonders. I doubt he would have the same affection that he has for Samp but having a great professional like him on the team could do some good.

Palombo will contribute much soul to the team. Definitely a greater role model than Montolivo, he will teach loyalty to the young ones (he said he’ll only leave if Samp wants him to, and now he’s on the market indeed because Samp wanted him to).

Yeah, Palombo is a model player. Even at this point he can still probably offer more than Ricky.

But he’s definitely on the decline, and signing him and then claiming our midfield is set which I know will happen is troubling. I don’t see him having much left in the tank.

I agree. But like I said, with limited budgets we’re limited to youngsters, mediocre players, or reviving stuttering careers; so a long-term solution will likely be a youngster. In that case, keeping a man like Palombo as a mentor will do nicely.

juve up 1-0 on a pk

pretty even match so far, lots of chances for La Viola, and a few for Juve. doesn’t seem like they miss the promoted players too much

as it write that, fior turn over the ball and the defense looks a lot like the senior squad against roma.
    2-0 Juve

Juve really taking it to Fior now. few min left in the half
Fior came back a bit the last 5 minutes, go two or three shots, nothing on
    halftime.

typical italian efficiency. the streams sound died, they still show the score at 1-0 and on the text links it’s still halftime and it’s 2-0. i’m pretty sure that second goal was scored, but who knows now

ok, Fior score! it’s either 2-1 as it says on the text on 1-1 as it says on tv
    pretty sure it’s 2-1 Juve.

goal was by beckham and a beauty, by the way, about 20 yards out over the arm of the goalie and just under the bar
    bittante out for the Emperor

yellow on the Emperor, tackle from behind

bit of time wasting, diving, grabbing the ball and generally bad sportsmanship showing up in black in white. I’m guessing they train that at all levels

Fior pressing and Juve sitting back and sending out the occasional counter, which is usually pretty effective

another juvemerde rolling around on the ground.
TV has just figured out there was a second Juve goal back in the first half, so yes, 2-1

Juve sub a player and he’s added energy. They’re taking it to Fior now

FIORENTINA SCORE!!! 2-2 15 minutes left Goal by Acosty, in the box, thru a defenders legs and trickles into the corner of the goal
DOH, Fior just miss the third, a fan on a wide open shot. Juve on their heels

Juve pressing back, Fior defending with all they have
5 min to go, prob be a lot of stoppage

Fior still looks like they think they want to score, but everytime thye come forward, Juve counters on them hard
    into stoppage. 5 min rec.
    fior sub

last min of stoppage, fior have a free kick deep. juve block, the whistle blows
fior remain 5 pts behind Juve in teh standings

(he’s the one on the left)

I’d say he’ll fit right in

    in other news,
Sampdoria Vice president says maybe it is time for palombo and Sampdoria to part ways.

I’m not sure i’d want to pick him up if he’s forced out, that ole rebound thing…
